The I Love You App — Delete Your Data
Last updated: 2026-10-09
Delete your data in the app
- Open The I Love You App.
- Go to Settings.
- Under Privacy, tap Delete my data and confirm.
Your data is deleted immediately and the app starts again with a new, empty account. You can do this even if your account has been suspended — but deleting does not lift a suspension: a suspended device stays suspended on the new account.
If you no longer have the app
Email support@theiloveyouapp.com with the subject "Delete my data". Because accounts are anonymous, we have no email address or username to look you up by, so tell us roughly when you last used the app, your selected language and your device model. If we cannot match your request to an account with reasonable confidence, we will tell you rather than risk deleting someone else's data.
Reinstalling the app does not recover your old account — it creates a new one — so the in-app button cannot reach data from before an uninstall. That data still ages out on the schedule in the Privacy Policy: recordings within days, usage records after 90 days.
What is deleted
- Your account record: language, credit balance, usage counters and strike count
- Recordings you sent that have not yet been delivered
- Messages delivered to you, including their audio
- Any recording you uploaded that was never sent
- Usage records linked to your account
- Your sign-in account
Purchased credits are lost when you delete your data and cannot be restored or refunded by us. Refunds for purchases are handled by Google Play or the App Store under their own policies.
What is kept, and why
Some data is kept, without anything linking it to your deleted account (except the last row), because deleting it would let deletion be used to get around our safety rules or to redeem a purchase twice:
| Data | Why it is kept | How long |
|---|---|---|
| A recording you sent that was already delivered | It is in another user's inbox, and they may report it | Until that message's normal deletion — about two days at most |
| A record linking that delivered recording to your device hash (not your account) | So a report about it can still count against the device | 3 days |
| How many free connections your device has used | So deleting an account cannot reset the free-connection limit | About 2 hours, until every free connection has come back |
| Strikes recorded against your device hash | So deleting an account cannot reset strikes | Indefinitely |
| Your device's support code, recorded against your device hash | So the same device gets the same code back, and we can find your earlier accounts when you contact us | Indefinitely |
| Your device hash on the ban list, with the anonymous account identifier that caused the ban, if your device is banned | So deleting an account cannot lift a ban | Until the ban is lifted |
| Purchase records (transaction id, product, credits, platform, time; if your credits had moved to a newer account on the device, a reference to that move instead of your account identifier) | Tax records, and to stop a receipt being redeemed twice | Indefinitely |
| Credits we added when you contacted us (the amount, when, and our reference for your request), without your account identifier | So the same credits are not added twice | Indefinitely |
| A note that you asked for deletion, holding your account ID | If the deletion is interrupted, we finish it automatically within the hour | Until the deletion has finished — normally a few seconds |
| A count that an account was deleted, with no identifier | To know how often deletion is used | Indefinitely |
| A copy of a recording kept because someone told us about a child safety concern, with the account and device that sent it and the account it was delivered to. This is the one item here that keeps your account identifier | So we can review it and, where the law requires, report it to the authorities | Until we have reviewed it, and longer where the law requires |
A device hash is an irreversible, secret-keyed hash of an identifier your operating system provides. We cannot turn it back into the identifier or use it to identify you. See the Privacy Policy for more.
